
Takchun Lai - Tuba/Euphonium

From 2015 to 2020, Lai Tak Chun served as the principal tuba player of the Auckland
Philharmonia Orchestra, making him one of the few Chinese tuba players to hold such
a position in a professional symphony orchestra overseas.
After returning to Hong Kong in 2020, he founded the Hong Kong Brass Band in 2023,
With the ambition of leading the band to the international stage and becoming one of
Asia's top brass bands.
Currently, Lai Tak Chun is a tuba instructor at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
Arts and Education, University of Hong Kong. From 2015 to 2020, he taught tuba
and euphonium at the University of Auckland. He served as a judge at the Auckland
Band Festival in 2016, acted as a mentor at the Slider Asia Brass Festival in 2017, and
co-founded the New Zealand International Brass Band Festival in 2020. From 2018 to
2020, he served as the music director of the Auckland City Brass Band, winning first
place in the March category at the 2018 Auckland Brass Band Regional Contest and
third place in the B section at the 2019 New Zealand Brass Band National Contest.
Furthermore, he was the music director of the Men of Winds from 2020 to 2022.
Lai is a Miraphone Tuba artist and Ultimate Brass Artist who plays exclusively on his
mouthpiece models, LTC-C and LTF-F.
